A work in progress

January 30, 2010

I have been working on a large painting of one of my succulents. I must find out the name of it one of these days. I am planning to use it for our Escape Artist show at the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton this summer. It has been great fun to work on such a large scale (30 x 30 inches), much bigger than anything I've worked on before. I am looking forward to doing some more of these larger paintings.

A painting at the FCA student show

January 18, 2010

Right now I have a painting at the Federation of Canadian Artists' student show at their gallery on Granville Island. A friend of mine also has a painting in the show and she took a photo for me, so I can show it here.

I really appreciate the FCA providing this opportunity for those of us who take classes and workshops from them, to show our work. Someday, I'd like to be out there for the show!

Another art blog

January 17, 2010

Fine Art Views is a blog written and overseen by Clint Watson. He is a self-described "software craftsman and art fanatic" who has been on the net with his artist web site for almost 10 years. He writes for the blog and has others write as well, mostly about the artist life and art marketing.

Working large

January 13, 2010

I have just begun working on a large painting of a succulent. I had done a small, 6x6 inch painting previously. This one is 30x30 inches, so a much larger scale. For our upcoming show this summer at the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton, I thought that something bright and plant oriented would work. So far, I am quite happy with how it is going. The photo shows the finished underpainting. I am now putting the final layers on.

An excellent art blog - Stapleton Kearns

January 10, 2010

One of my favourite art blogs is that done by Stapleton Kearns. He is a landscape painter who lives in the New England area. I came across this blog when he wrote a guest piece on the FineArtViews blog (I'll talk about this one later. Over the past year, he was doing a daily blog about art related topics. When I found it, he was just beginning a series of blogs about American painters from the past. It was very well, done, with lots of illustrations.

Seasonal somethings

December 5, 2009

This year, I made two calendars, one from some of my paintings, and the other from some of my photographs of my garden and around Saskatoon. I have a few of them left after our art show and if you might be interested in either of them, I could mail (no cost for mailing - a little seasonal special) or drop them off to you before the holiday. You can see them here at Calendars for 2010.

The Mendel Member's Showcase, their 5th Annual, will be held in the lower hall of the gallery from Friday June 5 to Sunday June 21 during gallery hours.

This year, there will be an opening reception for the public and artists at 8 pm, Friday, June 5.

I am submitting two pieces for the show again this year. I hope that you will have time to drop by - it is always a good show and has unfortunately been underplayed for the past couple of years. This year the Mendel seems to be making a better go at advertising.

I had a very good time at our recent group show for the Prairie River Artists. If you visit the site, you can see photos from the show via the link to the groups' Flickr pages. We had a good turnout of visitors and I want to thank all those who came out to see our show.

I have uploaded all of the newest works that I had included in the show on the New Works page.
